Walkway And Crossing Alert System
Accidental collisions between pedestrians and industrial vehicles, such as forklifts, excavators or reachstackers, can occur along walkways or at crossing points when a vehicle is approaching from around corners, blind spots or when the viewpoint of the driver/pedestrian is obstructed. This can often occur in a noisy or busy environment such as a worksite, warehouse, manufacturing or production environment. There is also higher risk of a collision between a vehicle and person when the workers are unfamiliar with their surroundings or are distracted during work.
The Walkway and Crossing Alert Systems help improve forklift safety by separating plant machinery traffic and pedestrians using audible visual warnings and restricted movement. These systems help to increase awareness amongst pedestrians and drivers of their surroundings and aim to increase the rate of collision avoidance in the work place.
How The Crossing Alert System Works
- The industrial vehicle is fitted with a ZoneSafe tag and the ZoneSafe units are placed along a walkway, at a crossing point, at a blind corner or next to a roller shutter door.
- These units can also be placed on a wall near a blind corner to warn vehicle drivers that a crossing point or walkway is close by.
- These units create their own 360 degrees detection zone.
- Once the vehicle enters the detection zone, the tag triggers an alarm to alert the personnel of the oncoming vehicles and that it is not yet safe to cross.
- The alarm will stop after the vehicle has left the detection zone.
